About

My name is Timothy Fraser and I am a student at York College. I am aspiring to get a BS in Earth Sciences in Secondary Education. I studied secondary education in Guyana (country of my birth) a few years ago at Cyril Potter College of Education. I am a very outgoing person and I enjoy meeting new people and learning new cultures. I am jovial and can always enjoy a good joke. I enjoy seeing people smile.  Throughout my 8 years of teaching, I picked up a few skills that have helped me to deal with adolescents and to communicate with them on their level, while letting them know that my job isn’t to be their friend but to guide and educate them.

One of the classes I taught in the 9th grade, their 3rd year.

I never envisioned myself teaching nor dealing with youths. I dreamt of being a pilot or working on planes as an engineer. A dream I tried many times to fulfill, but each time I was thwarted by one thing or another. It was my mother’s efforts and fear of me being a procrastinator on the streets that got me into the school system. There was a lack of communication between us because I had intended to return to school but I never objected to her wishes. I started as a lab assistant, then moved into the classrooms, and then onto college, which led to me becoming a trained teacher that sent students to do their final exams in Geography. Successes. I later migrated to the U.S.A, where I got my taste at culture shock. I never intended to teach in New York but after working for a year in an airport, I began to miss my profession and now a few months later im about to embark on a journey that promises to be fulfilling in an institution that shows great potential in providing the tools to help me achieve my goals.

This is where it begins but only time and faith will tell where it ends

From the jungles of Guyana to the jungles of New York.
